Comprehensive assessment for children three and four years of age, includes the use of clinical play-based and behavioral observations, parent interview, standardized and non-standardized tools, and language sampling to support understanding your child’s foundations. Assessment may look at the following areas based on your child’s strengths and needs:
- Play development
- Oral motor development,
- Speech sound development
- Motor planning and coordination for speech
- Phonological processing,
- Receptive language skills
- Expressive language skills
- Fluency (Stuttering)
- Pragmatic skills
- Social-relatedness foundations
as well as understanding your child’s patterns with
- processing,
- memory, and
- learning.
For young children, play development is a component of the assessment as it is the foundation for early communication. Observation of social-emotional and behavioral patterns with communication is also an integral component of assessment for preschoolers.
School readiness or pre-academic components are also assessed through observation and standardized assessment once children are four years of age. These include phonemic processing/phonological awareness for pre-reading, early symbolic writing skills, early alphabetic knowledge, and story comprehension.
The assessment process for 3 year old’s is up to two hours and costs $400.00. In addition, a 1-hour parent consultation separate from the assessment is included.*
The assessment process for 4 year old’s is up to 2.5 hours and costs $475.00. In addition, a 1-hour parent consultation separate from the assessment is included.*
*Additional time for assessment or parent meeting/ meeting with school teams or mental health providers will be billed at the hourly rate.
